Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Palivizumab? Is Palivizumab safe for nursing mother and child? Does Palivizumab extracts into breast milk? Does Palivizumab has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Palivizumab influence milk supply or can Palivizumab decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Palivizumab usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of palivizumab during breastfeeding. Because palivizumab is a large protein molecule with a molecular weight of about 148,000, the amount in milk is likely to be very low and absorption is unlikely because it will probably be destroyed in the infant's gastrointestinal tract.
