Does Sulfur Hexafluoride has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Sulfur Hexafluoride influence milk supply or can Sulfur Hexafluoride decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Sulfur Hexafluoride usage in lactation

No published experience exists with sulfur hexafluoride during breastfeeding. Because the half-life of the agent is about 10 minutes and absorption of the drug by the infant is unlikely. If sulfur hexafluoride is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding.[1] Because of the lack of information, the American College of Radiology states that temporary (~24 hours) pumping and discarding of milk may be considered.[2] However, this recommendation appears to be excessively cautious.
