Is Prandin Safe in Breastfeeding

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Prandin? Is Prandin safe for nursing mother and child? Does Prandin extracts into breast milk? Does Prandin has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Prandin influence milk supply or can Prandin decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Meglitinide drugs stimulate secretion of endogen insulin.There is a potential risk of hypoglucemia.Oral anti-diabetic drugs are useless for treatment of diabetes type 1. No information is available on the use of Prandin during breastfeeding. Prandin is a weak acid that is over 98% protein bound, so it is unlikely to pass into breastmilk in clinically important amounts. If Prandin is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. Monitor breastfed infants for signs of hypoglycemia such as jitteriness, excessive sleepiness, poor feeding, seizures cyanosis, apnea, or hypothermia. If there is concern, monitoring of the breastfed infant's blood glucose is advisable during maternal therapy with Prandin.[1] However, an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
