Answer by Dr. Ru: About UNII-Y45QSO73OB usage in lactation

Aminoglycosides are poorly absorbed by the intestine. Large doses may affect intestinal flora. Be aware of the possibility of false negative results of bacterial cultures when the mother is on antibiotics.

Answer by DrLact: About UNII-Y45QSO73OB usage in lactation

Similar to other aminoglycoside antibiotics, UNII-Y45QSO73OB is poorly excreted into breastmilk. Newborn infants apparently absorb small amounts of aminoglycosides, but serum levels are far below those attained when treating newborn infections and systemic effects of UNII-Y45QSO73OB are unlikely. Older infants would be expected to absorb even less UNII-Y45QSO73OB Monitor the infant for possible effects on the gastrointestinal flora, such as diarrhea, candidiasis (e.g., thrush, diaper rash) or rarely, blood in the stool indicating possible antibiotic-associated colitis.

UNII-Y45QSO73OB Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

One observational study found no inhibition of lactation by UNII-Y45QSO73OB.[1]
