Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Peramivir? Is Peramivir safe for nursing mother and child? Does Peramivir extracts into breast milk? Does Peramivir has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Peramivir influence milk supply or can Peramivir decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Peramivir usage in lactation

No information is available on the use of peramivir during breastfeeding. Because peramivir is poorly absorbed orally, it is not likely to reach the bloodstream of the infant in clinically important amounts. If peramivir is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. However, because no information is available on the use of peramivir breastfeeding, an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
