Answer by Dr. Ru: About Falicard usage in lactation

It is excreted in breast milk in clinically non-significant amount and no problems have been observed in infants whose mothers were receiving this treatment.Plasma levels in these infants were undetectable or very low. Falicard may induce to an increase of plasma Prolactin levels. American Academy of Pediatrics: usually compatible with breastfeeding medication.WHO List of Essential Medicines 2002: compatible with breastfeeding.

Answer by DrLact: About Falicard usage in lactation

Limited information indicates that maternal doses of Falicard up to 360 mg daily produce low levels in milk and newborns may have detectable Falicard serum levels, but levels are low. Falicard would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants, especially if the infant is older than 2 months.

Falicard Side Effects in Breastfeeding

No adverse reactions have been reported among 3 infants aged 13 days, 8 weeks and 3 months who were exposed to Falicard in breastmilk.[2][3][4]

Falicard Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

Falicard can cause hyperprolactinemia and galactorrhea.[5][6] The clinical relevance of these findings in nursing mothers is not known. The maternal prolactin level in a mother with established lactation may not affect her ability to breastfeed.
