Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Sorafenib? Is Sorafenib safe for nursing mother and child? Does Sorafenib extracts into breast milk? Does Sorafenib has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Sorafenib influence milk supply or can Sorafenib decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Sorafenib usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of sorafenib during breastfeeding. Because sorafenib is 99.5% bound to plasma proteins, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, its half-life is 25 to 48 hours and it might accumulate in the infant. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during sorafenib therapy.
