Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Fenelzyne? Is Fenelzyne safe for nursing mother and child? Does Fenelzyne extracts into breast milk? Does Fenelzyne has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Fenelzyne influence milk supply or can Fenelzyne decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Fenelzyne usage in lactation

Because of the lack of data on use during breastfeeding, other antidepressants are preferred during breastfeeding.

Fenelzyne Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

Fenelzyne can elevate serum prolactin in some patients[1] and has caused galactorrhea in nonpregnant, nonnursing patients.[2] The clinical relevance of these findings in nursing mothers is not known. The prolactin level in a mother with established lactation may not affect her ability to breastfeed.
