Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Moxidectin? Is Moxidectin safe for nursing mother and child? Does Moxidectin extracts into breast milk? Does Moxidectin has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Moxidectin influence milk supply or can Moxidectin decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Moxidectin usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of moxidectin during breastfeeding. However, amounts in breastmilk appear to be low and would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. If moxidectin is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. However, until more data become available, moxidectin should be used with caution during breastfeeding, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
