Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Moxetumomab Pasudotox? Is Moxetumomab Pasudotox safe for nursing mother and child? Does Moxetumomab Pasudotox extracts into breast milk? Does Moxetumomab Pasudotox has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Moxetumomab Pasudotox influence milk supply or can Moxetumomab Pasudotox decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Moxetumomab Pasudotox usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of moxetumomab pasudotox during breastfeeding. Moxetumomab pasudotox is a recombinant immunotoxin consisting of the Fv portion of the anti-CD22 antibody covalently fused to a 38 KDa fragment of Pseudomonas exotoxin-A (PE38) with potential anti-cancer activity. Because moxetumomab is a large protein molecule with a molecular weight of about 63,000, the amount in milk is likely to be very low and absorption is unlikely because it is probably destroyed in the infant's gastrointestinal tract. If moxetumomab pasudotox is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. Until more data become available, moxetumomab pasudotox should be used with caution during breastfeeding, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
