Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Gilteritinib? Is Gilteritinib safe for nursing mother and child? Does Gilteritinib extracts into breast milk? Does Gilteritinib has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Gilteritinib influence milk supply or can Gilteritinib decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Gilteritinib usage in lactation

No information is available on gilteritinib during breastfeeding. It is 94% bound to plasma proteins, so amounts in milk are likely to be low; however, it has a long half-life of about 113 hours. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during gilteritinib therapy and for 2 months after the last dose.
