I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Sulodexide? Is Sulodexide safe for nursing mother and child? Does Sulodexide extracts into breast milk? Does Sulodexide has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Sulodexide influence milk supply or can Sulodexide decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Heparin-like glycosaminoglycan which is a mixture of low molecular weight heparin (80%) and dermatan sulfate (20%) that has hypolipaemic and antithrombotic properties and used for treatment of venous insufficiency.It does not have significant effects on coagulation but some protective properties on vascular endothelium is attributed. At latest update on excretion into breast milk no published data were found. Pharmacokinetic data (large volume of distribution and high molecular weight) make it unlikely the passage into milk in significant amounts. Until more published data about this drug regarding breastfeeding is available, a safer alternative should be used, especially during the neonatal period and in case of prematurity.
