I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Famciclovirum? Is Famciclovirum safe for nursing mother and child? Does Famciclovirum extracts into breast milk? Does Famciclovirum has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Famciclovirum influence milk supply or can Famciclovirum decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Precursor of Penciclovir which is used for treatment of infections due to Herpes zoster and Herpes simplex viruses. At latest update, relevant published data on excretion into breast milk were not found. Possibly, a low risk medication during breastfeeding, since similar pharmacokinetics and side-effects are shared with well known drugs pertaining to the same family. Until more data on this medication is available, safer alternative drugs are preferred, especially in such critical age periods.

Because there is no published experience with Famciclovirum during breastfeeding, other agents may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
