I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Ambroxol? Is Ambroxol safe for nursing mother and child? Does Ambroxol extracts into breast milk? Does Ambroxol has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Ambroxol influence milk supply or can Ambroxol decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

At latest update, relevant published data on excretion into breast milk were not found. Because of high serum protein-binding capacity, excretion into breast milk in significant amount is seemingly unlikely. It is a metabolite of Bromhexine. Known adverse reactions are rare and mild. Authorized for use in children. Secretion of Prolactin and other hormones have not been affected by taking this medication. Effectiveness of this drug has not been established.
