Answer by Dr. Ru: About Alfuzosin Hydrochloride usage in lactation

Alpha-1 adrenergic blocker that is used on benign prostatic hypertrophy and other problems like voiding difficulty and obstruction including those caused by lithiasis. At latest update relevant published data on its excretion into breast milk were not found. Because of a high protein-binding capacity it is unlikely an excretion into breastmilk in significant amounts. Use not indicated on women. Several studies have reported usefulness for the removal of urinary stones. There is no evidence of efficacy in the prevention of post-traumatic urinary retention. Since it may cause hypotension in the infant, until more data on this drug is available, a safer and known alternative may be preferable, especially in cases of nursing infants younger than one month of age and premature babies.
