I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use D-Etomidate? Is D-Etomidate safe for nursing mother and child? Does D-Etomidate extracts into breast milk? Does D-Etomidate has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can D-Etomidate influence milk supply or can D-Etomidate decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?
Amounts of D-Etomidate in milk are very small and decrease rapidly. Existing data indicate that no waiting period is required before resuming breastfeeding after D-Etomidate anesthesia. Breastfeeding can be resumed as soon as the mother has recovered sufficiently from general anesthesia to nurse. When a combination of anesthetic agents is used for a procedure, follow the recommendations for the most problematic medication used during the procedure.
