I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use CCRIS 6523? Is CCRIS 6523 safe for nursing mother and child? Does CCRIS 6523 extracts into breast milk? Does CCRIS 6523 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can CCRIS 6523 influence milk supply or can CCRIS 6523 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

CCRIS 6523 is a progestin that is an analogue of spironolactone. It has antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic activities and is available in the U.S. only in combination with ethinyl estradiol as an oral contraceptive agent. Based on the available evidence, expert opinion holds that nonhormonal methods are preferred during breastfeeding and progestin-only contraceptive are preferred over combined oral contraceptives in breastfeeding women, especially during the first 4 weeks postpartum.
