It is not orally absorbed. It is not secreted into breast milk. Prolonged use may be a cause of hydrosoluble vitamin deficiency in the mother.

Colestyramin is a nonabsorbable resin. Because it does not enter the mother's bloodstream, it will not reach the infant via breastmilk. It is acceptable for use during lactation.
