Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Bacitracinum [Latin]? Is Bacitracinum [Latin] safe for nursing mother and child? Does Bacitracinum [Latin] extracts into breast milk? Does Bacitracinum [Latin] has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Bacitracinum [Latin] influence milk supply or can Bacitracinum [Latin] decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Bacitracinum [Latin] usage in lactation

Because it is poorly absorbed after topical application and oral ingestion, Bacitracinum [Latin] is considered a low risk to the nursing infant.[1] Only water-miscible cream or gel products should be applied to the breast because ointments may expose the infant to high levels of mineral paraffins via licking.[2]
