Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use CCRIS 3294? Is CCRIS 3294 safe for nursing mother and child? Does CCRIS 3294 extracts into breast milk? Does CCRIS 3294 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can CCRIS 3294 influence milk supply or can CCRIS 3294 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About CCRIS 3294 usage in lactation

CCRIS 3294 has not been studied during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should probably be avoided after oral use. Because it is poorly absorbed after topical application, it is considered a low risk to the nursing infant.[1][2][3] Ensure that the infant's skin does not come into direct contact with the areas of skin that have been treated. Only water-miscible cream or gel products should be applied to the breast because ointments may expose the infant to high levels of mineral paraffins via licking.[4]

CCRIS 3294 Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

A review of adverse reaction reports on retinoids causing a breast reaction submitted to a French pharmacovigilance center found 1 case of gynecomastia was associated with topical CCRIS 3294 use.[5]
