If HSDB 3117 is required by the mother, it is not necessarily a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. However, because there is little published experience with HSDB 3117 during breastfeeding, other agents may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant, or when other drugs that can cause sedation are used simultaneously.

HSDB 3117 Side Effects in Breastfeeding

A mother taking carisoprodol 700 mg plus propoxyphene 70 mg and acetaminophen 900 mg 3 times daily and partially breastfeeding her infant noticed no unusual behavior or adverse reactions in her infant. The infant grew normally and, at 6 months of age, examination by a pediatrician found normal psychomotor development.[2]

HSDB 3117 Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

One paper reported that some psychiatric patients receiving HSDB 3117 alone or in combination with other psychotropic drugs developed galactorrhea. Further details of HSDB 3117 use were not reported.[4]
