Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Phenprocumonum? Is Phenprocumonum safe for nursing mother and child? Does Phenprocumonum extracts into breast milk? Does Phenprocumonum has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Phenprocumonum influence milk supply or can Phenprocumonum decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Phenprocumonum usage in lactation

Phenprocumonum is not approved for sale by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Limited information indicates that anticoagulant maternal doses of Phenprocumonum produce low levels in milk. Until more data are available, shorter-acting anticoagulants are preferred, especially if the infant is younger than 2 months.
