Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Antimony sodium gluconate? Is Antimony sodium gluconate safe for nursing mother and child? Does Antimony sodium gluconate extracts into breast milk? Does Antimony sodium gluconate has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Antimony sodium gluconate influence milk supply or can Antimony sodium gluconate decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Antimony sodium gluconate usage in lactation

Limited information indicates that maternal doses of Antimony sodium gluconate up to 1.4 grams daily produce low levels in milk and would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants,[1] especially if the infant is older than 2 months. However, if withholding nursing during therapy is elected, breastfeeding can be reinstituted 24 to 48 hours after the last dose.
