I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Rosiglitazone? Is Rosiglitazone safe for nursing mother and child? Does Rosiglitazone extracts into breast milk? Does Rosiglitazone has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Rosiglitazone influence milk supply or can Rosiglitazone decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Tiazolidindion drugs increase the response to insulin.Oral anti-diabetic drugs are useless for treatment of diabetes type 1. For diabetes type 2, diet and exercise are advisable. Breastfeeding helps to lower glucemia level. See section on Maternal diabetes mellitus

No information is available on the clinical use of rosiglitazone during breastfeeding. Rosiglitazone is over 99% protein bound in plasma, so it is unlikely to pass into breastmilk in clinically important amounts. The manufacturer recommends avoiding breastfeeding during rosiglitazone use, so pioglitazone might be a better choice of the drugs in this class for nursing mothers.
