Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Daptomycinum [Latin]? Is Daptomycinum [Latin] safe for nursing mother and child? Does Daptomycinum [Latin] extracts into breast milk? Does Daptomycinum [Latin] has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Daptomycinum [Latin] influence milk supply or can Daptomycinum [Latin] decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Daptomycinum [Latin] usage in lactation

Limited and somewhat inconsistent information indicates that Daptomycinum [Latin] produces very low levels in milk and it would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. No special precautions are required.

Daptomycinum [Latin] Side Effects in Breastfeeding

A mother nursing (extent not stated) a 5-month-old infant received intravenous Daptomycinum [Latin] 500 mg and ertapenem 1 gram once daily for 28 days to treat a pelvic infection. No adverse events were noted in the infant during the treatment or follow-up examination. A woman nursing a newborn was given Daptomycinum [Latin] 500 mg intravenously once daily for 14 days. No adverse effects were noted in the infant during therapy and for 7 days after the end of therapy.[2]
