I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Daptomycinum? Is Daptomycinum safe for nursing mother and child? Does Daptomycinum extracts into breast milk? Does Daptomycinum has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Daptomycinum influence milk supply or can Daptomycinum decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?
Limited and somewhat inconsistent information indicates that Daptomycinum produces very low levels in milk and it would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. No special precautions are required.
A mother nursing (extent not stated) a 5-month-old infant received intravenous Daptomycinum 500 mg and ertapenem 1 gram once daily for 28 days to treat a pelvic infection. No adverse events were noted in the infant during the treatment or follow-up examination. A woman nursing a newborn was given Daptomycinum 500 mg intravenously once daily for 14 days. No adverse effects were noted in the infant during therapy and for 7 days after the end of therapy.[2]
