Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use LY-146032? Is LY-146032 safe for nursing mother and child? Does LY-146032 extracts into breast milk? Does LY-146032 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can LY-146032 influence milk supply or can LY-146032 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About LY-146032 usage in lactation

Limited and somewhat inconsistent information indicates that LY-146032 produces very low levels in milk and it would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. No special precautions are required.

LY-146032 Side Effects in Breastfeeding

A mother nursing (extent not stated) a 5-month-old infant received intravenous LY-146032 500 mg and ertapenem 1 gram once daily for 28 days to treat a pelvic infection. No adverse events were noted in the infant during the treatment or follow-up examination. A woman nursing a newborn was given LY-146032 500 mg intravenously once daily for 14 days. No adverse effects were noted in the infant during therapy and for 7 days after the end of therapy.[2]
