Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use ASL 279? Is ASL 279 safe for nursing mother and child? Does ASL 279 extracts into breast milk? Does ASL 279 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can ASL 279 influence milk supply or can ASL 279 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About ASL 279 usage in lactation

No information is available on the use of ASL 279 during breastfeeding. Because of its poor oral bioavailability and short half-life, any ASL 279 in milk is unlikely to affect the infant. Intravenous ASL 279 infusion may decrease milk production. ASL 279 is known to reduce serum prolactin in nonnursing women, but no information is available on its effect on milk production in nursing mothers.

ASL 279 Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

Intravenous ASL 279 infusion in doses of 2 to 5 mcg/kg/minute given to nonnursing subjects and in women with hyperprolactinemia decreases serum prolactin concentrations.[1][2][3][4][5] However, relevant published information on the effect of intravenous ASL 279 on milk production in nursing mothers was not found as of the revision date. The prolactin level in a mother with established lactation may not affect her ability to breastfeed.
