Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use HSDB 3068? Is HSDB 3068 safe for nursing mother and child? Does HSDB 3068 extracts into breast milk? Does HSDB 3068 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can HSDB 3068 influence milk supply or can HSDB 3068 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About HSDB 3068 usage in lactation

No information is available on the use of HSDB 3068 during breastfeeding. Because of its poor oral bioavailability and short half-life, any HSDB 3068 in milk is unlikely to affect the infant. Intravenous HSDB 3068 infusion may decrease milk production. HSDB 3068 is known to reduce serum prolactin in nonnursing women, but no information is available on its effect on milk production in nursing mothers.

HSDB 3068 Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

Intravenous HSDB 3068 infusion in doses of 2 to 5 mcg/kg/minute given to nonnursing subjects and in women with hyperprolactinemia decreases serum prolactin concentrations.[1][2][3][4][5] However, relevant published information on the effect of intravenous HSDB 3068 on milk production in nursing mothers was not found as of the revision date. The prolactin level in a mother with established lactation may not affect her ability to breastfeed.
