Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use KW-3-060? Is KW-3-060 safe for nursing mother and child? Does KW-3-060 extracts into breast milk? Does KW-3-060 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can KW-3-060 influence milk supply or can KW-3-060 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About KW-3-060 usage in lactation

No information is available on the use of KW-3-060 during breastfeeding. Because of its poor oral bioavailability and short half-life, any KW-3-060 in milk is unlikely to affect the infant. Intravenous KW-3-060 infusion may decrease milk production. KW-3-060 is known to reduce serum prolactin in nonnursing women, but no information is available on its effect on milk production in nursing mothers.

KW-3-060 Possible Effects in Breastfeeding

Intravenous KW-3-060 infusion in doses of 2 to 5 mcg/kg/minute given to nonnursing subjects and in women with hyperprolactinemia decreases serum prolactin concentrations.[1][2][3][4][5] However, relevant published information on the effect of intravenous KW-3-060 on milk production in nursing mothers was not found as of the revision date. The prolactin level in a mother with established lactation may not affect her ability to breastfeed.
