Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use CGP 56697? Is CGP 56697 safe for nursing mother and child? Does CGP 56697 extracts into breast milk? Does CGP 56697 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can CGP 56697 influence milk supply or can CGP 56697 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About CGP 56697 usage in lactation

CGP 56697 have not been studied in nursing mothers. Estimates of its excretion into breastmilk indicate that amounts in milk are very low. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consider the drug combination acceptable for use in mothers nursing an infant weighing at least 5 kg (11 pounds) and it can be given directly to infants weighing 5 kg or more.[1] The safety of the combination in breastfed infants under 5 kg is not known.
