Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one hormone reduces Prolactin serum levels and may likely inhibit milk production mainly soon after delivery. No significant increase of Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one serum levels neither in the mother´s milk nor in the infant’s serum have been found after administration to the mother. No adverse side effects have been noticed in the infant.

Limited data indicate that a low-dose (100 mg) subcutaneous Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one pellet given to a nursing mother appears not to increase milk Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one levels markedly. Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one has low oral bioavailability because of extensive first-pass metabolism, so it is unlikely to affect the breastfed infant. One breastfed infant seemed not to be adversely affected by low-dose maternal Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one therapy.

Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one Side Effects in Breastfeeding

An infant (age not stated) was breastfed (extent not stated) after implantation of 100 mg of Androst-4-en-17beta-ol-3-one subcutaneously. No adverse effects were noted in the infant over a 5-month period.[1]
