I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one? Is 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one safe for nursing mother and child? Does 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one extracts into breast milk? Does 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one influence milk supply or can 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one hormone reduces Prolactin serum levels and may likely inhibit milk production mainly soon after delivery. No significant increase of 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one serum levels neither in the mother´s milk nor in the infant’s serum have been found after administration to the mother. No adverse side effects have been noticed in the infant.

Limited data indicate that a low-dose (100 mg) subcutaneous 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one pellet given to a nursing mother appears not to increase milk 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one levels markedly. 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one has low oral bioavailability because of extensive first-pass metabolism, so it is unlikely to affect the breastfed infant. One breastfed infant seemed not to be adversely affected by low-dose maternal 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one therapy.
17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one Side Effects in Breastfeeding
An infant (age not stated) was breastfed (extent not stated) after implantation of 100 mg of 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one subcutaneously. No adverse effects were noted in the infant over a 5-month period.[1]
17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one Possible Effects in Breastfeeding
Supraphysiologic serum levels of 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one, either from a tumor[2][3] or from exogenously administered 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one,[4] reduces milk production in postpartum women. 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one alone reduces serum prolactin;[4] however, when given in combination with estrogen and progestin, serum prolactin levels are not markedly reduced.[5] 17beta-Hydroxy-delta(sup4)-androsten-3-one was previously used therapeutically to suppress lactation, usually in combination with an estrogen.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
