Is Intrinsa Safe in Breastfeeding

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Intrinsa? Is Intrinsa safe for nursing mother and child? Does Intrinsa extracts into breast milk? Does Intrinsa has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Intrinsa influence milk supply or can Intrinsa decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Intrinsa hormone reduces Prolactin serum levels and may likely inhibit milk production mainly soon after delivery. No significant increase of Intrinsa serum levels neither in the mother´s milk nor in the infant’s serum have been found after administration to the mother. No adverse side effects have been noticed in the infant.

Limited data indicate that a low-dose (100 mg) subcutaneous Intrinsa pellet given to a nursing mother appears not to increase milk Intrinsa levels markedly. Intrinsa has low oral bioavailability because of extensive first-pass metabolism, so it is unlikely to affect the breastfed infant. One breastfed infant seemed not to be adversely affected by low-dose maternal Intrinsa therapy.

An infant (age not stated) was breastfed (extent not stated) after implantation of 100 mg of Intrinsa subcutaneously. No adverse effects were noted in the infant over a 5-month period.[1]

Supraphysiologic serum levels of Intrinsa, either from a tumor[2][3] or from exogenously administered Intrinsa,[4] reduces milk production in postpartum women. Intrinsa alone reduces serum prolactin;[4] however, when given in combination with estrogen and progestin, serum prolactin levels are not markedly reduced.[5] Intrinsa was previously used therapeutically to suppress lactation, usually in combination with an estrogen.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
