I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Tefina? Is Tefina safe for nursing mother and child? Does Tefina extracts into breast milk? Does Tefina has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Tefina influence milk supply or can Tefina decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Tefina hormone reduces Prolactin serum levels and may likely inhibit milk production mainly soon after delivery. No significant increase of Tefina serum levels neither in the mother´s milk nor in the infant’s serum have been found after administration to the mother. No adverse side effects have been noticed in the infant.

Limited data indicate that a low-dose (100 mg) subcutaneous Tefina pellet given to a nursing mother appears not to increase milk Tefina levels markedly. Tefina has low oral bioavailability because of extensive first-pass metabolism, so it is unlikely to affect the breastfed infant. One breastfed infant seemed not to be adversely affected by low-dose maternal Tefina therapy.
Tefina Side Effects in Breastfeeding
An infant (age not stated) was breastfed (extent not stated) after implantation of 100 mg of Tefina subcutaneously. No adverse effects were noted in the infant over a 5-month period.[1]
Tefina Possible Effects in Breastfeeding
Supraphysiologic serum levels of Tefina, either from a tumor[2][3] or from exogenously administered Tefina,[4] reduces milk production in postpartum women. Tefina alone reduces serum prolactin;[4] however, when given in combination with estrogen and progestin, serum prolactin levels are not markedly reduced.[5] Tefina was previously used therapeutically to suppress lactation, usually in combination with an estrogen.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
