I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Dibucaine Base? Is Dibucaine Base safe for nursing mother and child? Does Dibucaine Base extracts into breast milk? Does Dibucaine Base has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Dibucaine Base influence milk supply or can Dibucaine Base decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Topical anesthetics (locally used compounds on skin or mouth) when properly applied show a poor or almost nil absorption. Likely, enhanced absorption when apply on damaged or swollen surfaces. Do not apply on the breast. Otherwise, after a breast feed and cleanse it thoroughly with water before next feeding. Creams, gels and other locally applied products that contain paraffin (mineral oil) should be avoided on the nipple in order to keep the infant from absorption of Hydrocarbon derivatives.

Topical Dibucaine Base has not been studied during breastfeeding, but is unlikely to affect her breastfed infant if it is applied away from the breast. However, Dibucaine Base ointment should not be applied to the nipple area. Only water-miscible cream or gel products should be applied to the breast because ointments may expose the infant to high levels of mineral paraffins via licking.[1]
