Sal sódica del ácido cítrico.Se utiliza por vía rectal en enemas por actuar como laxante osmótico y en irrigaciones vesicales para disolver coágulos. Tiene poder alcalinizante de la orina, neutralizador del pH gástrico y anticoagulante. A fecha de última actualización no encontramos datos publicados sobre su excreción en leche materna. Dada la pequeña cantidad y la vía de administración, la absorción sistémica es prácticamente nula (AEMPS 2013), por lo que no se espera excreción significativa en leche materna. En caso de absorberse, se metaboliza a bicarbonato. Tanto el sodio como el bicarbonato son componentes normales del organismo y están en la leche materna en concentraciones diferentes a las plasmáticas (Allen 1991).
