Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Quinupristin-dalfopristin? Is Quinupristin-dalfopristin safe for nursing mother and child? Does Quinupristin-dalfopristin extracts into breast milk? Does Quinupristin-dalfopristin has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Quinupristin-dalfopristin influence milk supply or can Quinupristin-dalfopristin decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Quinupristin-dalfopristin usage in lactation

Quinupristin and dalfopristin are relatively large molecules that are unlikely to be excreted into breastmilk in large amounts or to be absorbed orally by the breastfeeding infant.[1] If quinupristin-dalfopristin is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. However, since no information is available on the use of quinupristin and dalfopristin during breastfeeding, an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
