Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Telavic? Is Telavic safe for nursing mother and child? Does Telavic extracts into breast milk? Does Telavic has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Telavic influence milk supply or can Telavic decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Telavic usage in lactation

Telavic is not marketed in the United States and has not been studied in nursing mothers. Because it must be used with ribavirin and peginterferon alfa, it is not considered a good choice during breastfeeding. When it was marketed, the manufacturer recommended that mothers taking Telavic not breastfeed their infants.
