Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use CP-690,550? Is CP-690,550 safe for nursing mother and child? Does CP-690,550 extracts into breast milk? Does CP-690,550 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can CP-690,550 influence milk supply or can CP-690,550 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About CP-690,550 usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of CP-690,550 during breastfeeding. If CP-690,550 is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding.[1] However, until more data become available, CP-690,550 should be used with caution during breastfeeding and an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.[2] The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during CP-690,550 therapy and for 18 hours after the last dose of Xeljanz or 36 hours after the last dose of Xeljanz XR.
