Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use AMI 121? Is AMI 121 safe for nursing mother and child? Does AMI 121 extracts into breast milk? Does AMI 121 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can AMI 121 influence milk supply or can AMI 121 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About AMI 121 usage in lactation

AMI 121 is not approved for marketing in the United States by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No information is available on the clinical use of AMI 121 during breastfeeding. If AMI 121 is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding.[1] However, because there is no published experience with AMI 121 during breastfeeding, other agents may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
