Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use VER 001? Is VER 001 safe for nursing mother and child? Does VER 001 extracts into breast milk? Does VER 001 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can VER 001 influence milk supply or can VER 001 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About VER 001 usage in lactation

If VER 001 is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. Because VER 001 is poorly absorbed orally, it is not likely to reach the bloodstream of the infant or cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. Monitor the infant for possible effects on the gastrointestinal tract, such as diarrhea, vomiting, and candidiasis (e.g., thrush, diaper rash). However, because there is no published experience with VER 001 during breastfeeding, an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
