Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Rapivab? Is Rapivab safe for nursing mother and child? Does Rapivab extracts into breast milk? Does Rapivab has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Rapivab influence milk supply or can Rapivab decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Rapivab usage in lactation

No information is available on the use of Rapivab during breastfeeding. Because Rapivab is poorly absorbed orally, it is not likely to reach the bloodstream of the infant in clinically important amounts. If Rapivab is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. However, because no information is available on the use of Rapivab breastfeeding, an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
