Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Tovok? Is Tovok safe for nursing mother and child? Does Tovok extracts into breast milk? Does Tovok has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Tovok influence milk supply or can Tovok decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Tovok usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of Tovok during breastfeeding. Because Tovok is about 95% bound to plasma proteins, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, its half-life is about 37 hours and it might accumulate in the infant. the manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during Tovok therapy and for 2 weeks after the last dose.
