Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use GW 572016? Is GW 572016 safe for nursing mother and child? Does GW 572016 extracts into breast milk? Does GW 572016 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can GW 572016 influence milk supply or can GW 572016 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About GW 572016 usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of GW 572016 during breastfeeding. Because GW 572016 is more than 99% bound to plasma proteins, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, its half-life is about 24 hours and it might accumulate in the infant. It is also given in combination with capecitabine, which may increase the risk to the infant. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during GW 572016 therapy.
