Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Ibrance? Is Ibrance safe for nursing mother and child? Does Ibrance extracts into breast milk? Does Ibrance has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Ibrance influence milk supply or can Ibrance decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Ibrance usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of Ibrance during breastfeeding. Because Ibrance is 85% bound to plasma proteins, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, its half-life is about 29 hours and it might accumulate in the infant. It is also given in combination with letrozole or fulvestrant, which may increase the risk to the infant. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during Ibrance therapy and for 3 weeks after the last dose.
