Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Ro 51-85426? Is Ro 51-85426 safe for nursing mother and child? Does Ro 51-85426 extracts into breast milk? Does Ro 51-85426 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Ro 51-85426 influence milk supply or can Ro 51-85426 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Ro 51-85426 usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of Ro 51-85426 during breastfeeding. Because Ro 51-85426 is more than 99% bound to plasma proteins, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, its half-life is 57 hours and it might accumulate in the infant. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during Ro 51-85426 therapy and for 2 weeks after the final dose.
