Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use SU-11248? Is SU-11248 safe for nursing mother and child? Does SU-11248 extracts into breast milk? Does SU-11248 has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can SU-11248 influence milk supply or can SU-11248 decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About SU-11248 usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of SU-11248 during breastfeeding. Because SU-11248 and its metabolite are over 90% bound to plasma proteins, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, one of its metabolites has a half-life of up to 110 hours, and might accumulate in the infant. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during SU-11248 therapy and for at least 4 weeks after the last dose.
