Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Enasidenib [INN]? Is Enasidenib [INN] safe for nursing mother and child? Does Enasidenib [INN] extracts into breast milk? Does Enasidenib [INN] has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Enasidenib [INN] influence milk supply or can Enasidenib [INN] decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Enasidenib [INN] usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of Enasidenib [INN] during breastfeeding. Because Enasidenib [INN] is 98.5% bound to plasma proteins and its active metabolite is 96.6% bound to plasma proteins, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, the half-life of Enasidenib [INN] is 137 hours and it might accumulate in the infant. The manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during Enasidenib [INN] therapy and for at least 1 month after the end of therapy.
