Question

I am a breastfeeding mother and i want to know if it is safe to use Acalabrutinib [INN]? Is Acalabrutinib [INN] safe for nursing mother and child? Does Acalabrutinib [INN] extracts into breast milk? Does Acalabrutinib [INN] has any long term or short term side effects on infants? Can Acalabrutinib [INN] influence milk supply or can Acalabrutinib [INN] decrease milk supply in lactating mothers?

Answer by DrLact: About Acalabrutinib [INN] usage in lactation

No information is available on the clinical use of Acalabrutinib [INN] during breastfeeding. Because Acalabrutinib [INN] is over 97% bound to plasma proteins, and the half-life of the drug and metabolite are less than 7 hours, the amount in milk is likely to be low. However, the protein binding of the active metabolite is not known and the manufacturer recommends that breastfeeding be discontinued during Acalabrutinib [INN] therapy and for at least 2 weeks after the final dose.
